HH The Amir participates in the Opening of the 75th Session at the UN General Assembly

His Highness The Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani participated in the opening session of the General Debate of the 75th session of the United Nations General Assembly, that was held via video conference at the UN headquarters in New York, with the participation of a number of Their Majesties, Highnesses, Excellencies, heads of state and government and delegations.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs: Doha Negotiations Seeks to Reach a Solution that Achieves Peace for Afghan People and Fulfills its Aspirations

HE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani underlined that in implementation of the wise directives of HH the Amir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, the State of Qatar has continued its efforts to commence the intra-Afghan negotiations, in order to reach a political solution that ensures the achievement of peace for the Afghan people and fulfills its aspiration for stability and prosperity, extending thanks to the United States for its cooperation and appreciated efforts to facilitate the convening of these negotiations. HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs expressed the State of Qatar's pride for hosting these important historic negotiations, which follow the conclusion of the peace agreement between the United States and the Taliban in Doha in February.


Afghanistan Peace Negotiations Commence in Doha

As part of the efforts to achieve sustainable peace in Afghanistan, Doha witnessed on Saturday the launch of the Afghanistan Peace Negotiations with representatives from the Afghan government, the Taliban and Afghan civil society. The inaugural session of the Afghanistan Peace Negotiations was attended by HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani, HE US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, as well as the two parties to the negotiations represented by Abdullah Abdullah from the Afghan government and Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar from the Taliban, in addition to several other officials.



Marking the International Day to Protect Education from Attack on September 9, 2020:A Qatari initiative to raise awareness about the suffering of children affected by armed conflict, and their urgent need for educational support

The United Nations General Assembly in 2019 adopted a resolution to proclaim the 9th of September as an International Day to Protect the Education from Attack, a decision called for by Her Highness SheikhaMoza bint Nasser, Chairperson of Education Above All Foundation and a member of the UN Sustainable Development Goals Advocates Group. The State of Qatar led it to mobilize international support to ensure accountability for the ongoing and deliberate attacks on education and armed violence children around the world are suffering from. This day will serve as an annual platform for the international community to review progress, new data, and commit to effective mechanisms to hold the perpetrators of these attacks accountable and end their impunity.
